Tour A: Day trip to Mossel Bay, including Outeniqua Choo Tjoe

09h00 Collect guests from accommodation, and transfer to the Outeniqua Transport Museum, in George.

10h00 Outeniqua Choo Tjoe departs from the Transport Museum, and travels through beautiful farmlands and then along the stunning coast, to Mossel Bay.

12h00 The Choo Tjoe stops at the Dias Museum complex, where we spend a fascinating hour or two. This complex has, among other artefacts, a full-size replica of the caravel on which Bartolomeu Dias made his historic voyage, in 1488, to be the first European to set foot on southern African soil. In the same complex, there is also a very extensive shell museum, and the world-famous Old Post Office Tree, surrounded by lovely gardens of indigenous plants.

+/- 13h30 : We have lunch at one of the many seaside restaurants in the town. Mossel Bay is a fascinating harbour town, with wonderful views of the Outeniqua and Langeberg Mountains, and the beautiful wide bay. In the winter and spring months, there are great whale-watching opportunities (both from the shore, and from boats). The Romonza ferry does 60-minute trips to Seal Island, from Mossel Bay harbour, and one can often see 3 types of marine mammals (seals, dolphins, and Southern Right whales – July to November), on this trip.

After lunch, a gentle stroll along the Point promenade, or on one of the sandy beaches in the area, can be enjoyed before we board the minibus and return to the accommodation in George, arriving there at about 17h00.

You will be collected at about 08h00 from your hotel/guest house and transported over the magnificent Outeniqua Pass to the town of Oudtshoorn. (The “ostrich capital” of the world!)
We then take you on a guided tour at one of the Ostrich Show farms, where you will absorb LOTS of interesting information and, if you wish, even sit on or ride one of these amazing birds.

After the Ostrich Farm, you have a visit to the Cango Wildlife Ranch OR a drive up the spectacular Swartberg Pass (weather permitting).
A light lunch at the Wilgewandel Farm Stall will be followed by a visit to the world-famous Cango Caves. This is an experience not to be missed.
We will then have a leisurely drive back to George.

Tour C: Little Karoo / Mossel Bay Tour

We collect you from your accommodation and travel over the magnificent Outeniqua Pass to Outshoorn where we visit one of the Ostrich Show Farms, always an entertaining and interesting excursion.Here you are taken on a guided tour. If you wish, you may  sit on or ride one of these amazing birds.

After tea at the Ostrich farm, we return to the coast via the Robinson Pass, where, on a clear day, you have spectacular views of the Outeniqua Mountains.
Lunch will be at the charming Eight Bells Country Inn, at the foot of the Robinson Pass.
On arrival in Mossel Bay, a visit to the Diaz Museum, or stroll around the promenade at the Point, can be enjoyed before returning to George.

Tour D: Tsitsikamma (Garden Route ) tour

This tour starts fairly early in the morning, with a lovely drive along the coastal road through Knysna to Plettenberg Bay. Enjoy the breathtaking views (great whale-watching from here in the winter months!) of the Keurbooms estuary and the Tsitsikamma Mountains. We continue along the R102, exploring the beautifully forested Groot River Pass, the beaches at Nature's valley, (a magical stop), and the equally spectacular Bloukrans Pass. We have lunch at the restaurant at the Storms River Mouth, in the Tsitsikamma National Park, and, for the more energetic, there is a walk through the forest to the suspension bridge over the Storms River. The Bungy-jumping site at the Bloukrans bridge is a mandatory stop, if not to jump, then at least to watch those brave souls doing the highest commercial bungy jump in the world - 216 metres!!! Return to base at about 18h00, as this is a longish day!

These are tours especially for smaller groups, perhaps just a couple, a family, or a group of old friends enjoying time together.

The best part of doing this type of tour is that it can be designed specifically for your type of holiday.

Cape Town to Port Elizabeth, at your leisure :
On arrival in Cape Town you are collected by your guide, and will then spend a few days enjoying the many sights and attractions of this exciting city. The “must see’s” : Table Mountain, Cape Point Nature Reserve, Robben Island, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, the V&A Waterfront and the famous penguin colony at Boulders’ Beach in Simonstown.

Explore the Stellenbosch /Paarl /Franschhoek region, testing and tasting at some elegant wine estates such as Boschendal, Spier, Lanzerac, and Bellingham before heading along the coast towards Swellendam and the Garden Route.

A few days are necessary to explore and enjoy the wonderful diversity of terrain and activities to be found in the Garden Route. These include the Cango Caves, Ostrich Show Farms, the Swartberg and Outeniqua Mountains, enchanting vegetation, and beautiful beaches such as Wilderness, Victoria Bay, Plettenberg Bay.

Drive on towards the Eastern Cape, alongside the spectacular Tsitsikamma Mountains , through the forested gorges of the Groot and Bloukrans rivers.(perhaps a bungy jump or two!!).

Once reaching the friendly coastal city of Port Elizabeth, there is a choice of interesting Game Reserves nearby, from luxury lodges in private reserves to comfortable hutted camps in National Parks. Here, you can enjoy your wild life experience in malaria-free comfort!

To get the most benefit from this journey you would need ten to twelve days, but that can be trimmed to suit the time at your disposal.

From here, there are many options to take. (eg a trip to KwaZulu-Natal, Kruger National Park, Victoria Falls, Namibia, and then back home!!)

In late Autumn and early spring there is the exciting option of making a journey that would include two or three days at the coastal resort of Hermanus to enjoy the wonderful sightings and antics of the visiting Southern Right whales. This is a location famous for being the best land based whale watching site in the world.It is an amazing experience to see these great creatures just a few metres from the shore.

From the coast, travel west through the wheatfields of the Swartland, visiting the charming towns of Caledon, Worcester, Tulbagh, Darling and eventually reaching the West Coast near Lamberts Bay. (famous for the huge colony of Gannets to be found on Bird island). This is totally different terrain and coastline from that which has been visited earlier. The special treat at this time is that, after the winter rains, the normally stark and barren country side can be transformed into a dazzling display of spring flowers. There are many and varied routes to be explored, going as far north as Kammieskroon in the Northern Cape, to get the best floral experience in the time available.
